P. Schuyler Miller (1912–1974) published solid science fiction from the 1930s, ‘The Cave’ and the ‘Old Rambling House’ among them, but his largest mark was as a critic: his ‘Reference Library’ book-review column ran in Astounding and Analog for over twenty years, shaping the taste of the field. He received a special Hugo for that reviewing. A scholarly, trusted voice of the genre.
