Alan E. Nourse (1928–1992) trained and practised as a physician, and brought that expertise to science fiction rich in medical and biological ideas, much of it written for younger readers. He is also remembered for a small piece of lasting vocabulary: the title of his 1975 story collection, 'Cyberpunk', gave the later movement its name.
