Mack Reynolds (1917–1983) was, for a time, among the most popular writers in the SF magazines, and one of the few to make sociology, economics and politics his central subject. A committed traveller and socialist, he set his stories in plausibly extrapolated future societies and was unusually interested in how the world might actually be organised differently. His work offers a thoughtful counter-current to the era's adventure fiction.
