Fritz Leiber (1910–1992) was one of the genre's true stylists, equally at home in science fiction, fantasy and horror. He coined the term 'sword and sorcery' and, in Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, wrote the stories that defined it. His urban horror ('Smoke Ghost', Conjure Wife) updated the supernatural tale for the modern city, and his SF won multiple Hugo and Nebula Awards. Few writers of his era matched his wit or his range.
