Robert Abernathy (1924–1990) contributed some forty carefully written short stories to the science-fiction magazines from 1942, beginning in Astounding. He never turned to novels; his day job was academic, as a professor of Slavic and mathematical linguistics at the University of Colorado. His spare, intelligent stories are quietly regarded among connoisseurs of the pulp era.
