Murray Leinster (1896–1975), pen name of Will F. Jenkins, wrote science fiction across half a century with such reliable craft that he was known as 'the Dean of Science Fiction'. His 1945 story 'First Contact' gave the genre one of its central scenarios and its very name for it; his 1946 'A Logic Named Joe' anticipated the personal computer and something very like the internet with startling accuracy. A working professional to his bones, he sold to the pulps, the slicks and the digests alike.
