Edmond Hamilton (1904–1977) was one of the architects of space opera, earning the nickname 'World-Wrecker Hamilton' for the planet-shattering scale of his 1920s and 30s pulp adventures. He created the Interstellar Patrol and Captain Future, and later, in stories like 'The Star Kings' and 'What's It Like Out There?', showed a more reflective, humane side. With his wife Leigh Brackett he formed one of the genre's notable writing partnerships.
