Ben Bova (1932–2020) succeeded John W. Campbell as editor of Analog in 1971 and won six Hugo Awards for his editing there and at Omni, championing a new generation of writers. He was also a hugely productive novelist, the long ‘Grand Tour’ sequence dramatises the human settlement of the solar system, planet by planet, in scrupulous hard-SF detail. A tireless advocate for real spaceflight and science literacy, and a past president of the SFWA.
