John Foster West

John Foster West (1918–2008) was a Wilkes County author and long-serving professor of creative writing at Appalachian State University. Among his novels, poetry and Appalachian histories (notably his definitive studies of the Tom Dooley murder) is science fiction such as Cogito, Ergo Sum. A distinguished regional man of letters with a speculative streak.
