Charles L. Harness (1915–2005) was a chemist and patent attorney whose SF is prized for its baroque plotting and metaphysical sweep. Flight into Yesterday (The Paradox Men) and the novella ‘The Rose’ pack transformation, time and cosmic recurrence into dense, glittering structures much admired by writers like Michael Moorcock and Brian Aldiss. He wrote sporadically across five decades, always the connoisseur’s favourite.
