Malcolm Jameson (1891–1945) turned to writing after illness ended his naval career, and brought that service background to his fiction, above all the ‘Commander Bullard’ stories in Astounding, which transplanted the culture of the navy into space and helped shape military science fiction. He wrote steadily through the early 1940s until his early death.
