F. Orlin Tremaine (1899–1956) edited Astounding Stories from 1933 to 1937, revitalising it with ‘thought-variant’ tales that pushed bold new ideas and lifting the magazine to the front rank just before John W. Campbell took over. His editorship was a crucial bridge between the early pulp era and the Golden Age.
