Carl Selwyn (1917–1984), born Carl Selwyn Pugh, Jr., burst onto the scene in 1940 as one of Planet Stories’ most prolific new writers, turning out fast, boy-gets-girl space opera set among Mercurians, Venusians and Martians. He left about ten stories before the war and a Hollywood job with MGM drew him away, a small, characteristic corner of the pulp Solar System that Brackett and Bradbury would later enrich.
