Frederik Pohl (1919–2013) was one of science fiction's most durable and decorated figures, active from the 1930s fan scene to the twenty-first century. As an editor (Galaxy, If) he shaped the field; as a writer he produced the biting satire The Space Merchants (with C. M. Kornbluth) and the Hugo- and Nebula-winning Gateway. A Grand Master of the genre, he won just about every award it offers, and blogged actively into his nineties.
