Jack Williamson (1908–2006) had one of the longest careers in the field, from the pulps of the 1920s to novels published in his nineties. He coined the term ‘terraforming’, explored the perils of benevolent machines in The Humanoids, and wrote the werewolf-science classic Darker Than You Think. Named a SFWA Grand Master and a Damon Knight Memorial honoree, he was a living bridge across the entire modern history of science fiction.
