Raymond Z. Gallun (1911–1994) was among the first generation of American pulp science-fiction writers, selling his first stories at sixteen. His best-known work, 'Old Faithful' (1934), was notable for treating its Martian protagonist with real sympathy rather than as a monster, an early step toward more humane alien contact stories. He travelled widely and kept publishing across many decades.
