Charles V. De Vet (1911–1997) was a Michigan schoolteacher and, for most of his life, a U.S. postal worker who published more than fifty science-fiction stories from 1950 on. His best-known work is Cosmic Checkmate (from the novella ‘Second Game’), written with Katherine MacLean, in which an interstellar conflict turns on a board game. A quietly intelligent contributor to the magazines.
