Jerome Bixby (1923–1998) wrote one of the most chilling stories in the genre, 'It's a Good Life', about an all-powerful child, famously adapted for The Twilight Zone. A versatile professional, he wrote for Star Trek (including 'Mirror, Mirror', which introduced the mirror universe), co-wrote the film Fantastic Voyage, and completed the screenplay The Man from Earth shortly before his death.
