Donald E. Westlake (1933–2008) is best known as a crime novelist, creator of the comic thief Dortmunder and, as ‘Richard Stark’, the ruthless Parker, and a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master. But he began in the 1950s science-fiction magazines and returned to the genre periodically, notably with the satirical Anarchaos. His lean, witty, plot-perfect craft carried across every field he touched.
