Stephen Tall (1908–1981), pen name of biologist Compton Crook, brought a scientist’s eye to his fiction, best known for the stories of the exploration ship Stardust and the novel The Ramsgate Paradox. The Compton Crook Award for best first SF novel is named in his honour. A late-blooming, scientifically grounded talent.
