Algis Budrys (1931–2008), born in Königsberg to Lithuanian parents, was a subtle novelist and one of science fiction's most respected reviewers and teachers. His novels Rogue Moon and Who? are enduring works of psychological SF, and his criticism (collected in Benchmarks) shaped the field's self-understanding. He later ran the Writers of the Future contest and workshop, mentoring a generation of new writers.
