Winston K. Marks (1915–1978) began publishing in 1940 but hit his stride in the 1950s, when he turned out close to sixty stories for Galaxy, Astounding and their rivals in a mildly hard-bitten, amusing style. Several were widely anthologised; a posthumous collection, The Test Colony, gathered his work in 2012. A characteristic craftsman of the magazine boom.
