Mari Wolf

Mari Wolf (born 1926) was a UCLA-trained mathematician who worked in aerospace, a calculating-machine operator at JPL, and wrote science fiction and a popular fandom column, ‘Fandora’s Box’, for Imagination from 1951 to 1956. She is credited with coining ‘droid’ for a robot. Her seven stories were later collected; she dropped out of the field at the end of the 1950s.
