G. C. Edmondson (1922–1995), of Scottish-Guatemalan background, writing in both English and Spanish, produced clever, humane science fiction from the late 1950s. The Ship That Sailed the Time Stream, in which a naval vessel slips through time, is his best-loved work, and his short fiction (some featuring the tall-tale-telling ‘Mad Friend’) shows a genial, inventive wit.
