Wilson Tucker (1914–2006) was a projectionist by trade and a giant of fandom, coiner of ‘space opera’ and the practice of ‘tuckerization’ (naming characters after friends). As a novelist his post-apocalyptic The Long Loud Silence and the time-travel The Year of the Quiet Sun (a Campbell Award winner) are highly regarded. A warm, witty presence in the field for decades.
