S. P. Meek (1894–1972), Captain, later Colonel, Sterner St. Paul Meek, was a career U.S. Army ordnance chemist who turned out brisk science-fiction adventures for Amazing and early Astounding around 1929–1933, most featuring his scientist-detective Dr. Bird. Hailed at the time as one of the field’s notable names, he later wrote a long shelf of children’s books about dogs and horses drawn from army life.
