Robert A. W. ‘Doc’ Lowndes (1916–1998) was one of the ‘Quadrumvirate’ at the heart of the Futurians, alongside Pohl and Wollheim. As an editor for Columbia Publications he ran Future Science Fiction, Science Fiction and Science Fiction Quarterly on tiny budgets with real taste, and his later Magazine of Horror and Startling Mystery Stories published the first sales of Stephen King and F. Paul Wilson. A First Fandom Hall of Famer.
