Robert Cromie (1855–1907) was a Belfast journalist and novelist whose A Plunge into Space (1890) sends explorers to Mars in an anti-gravity sphere to find a serene utopian civilisation, an early and readable planetary romance, with a preface by Jules Verne in later editions. A modest but genuine pioneer of the interplanetary tale.
