Joseph Payne Brennan (1918–1990) was a Yale librarian, poet and one of the more admired horror writers of the post-pulp era; his monster story ‘Slime’ is a much-anthologised classic, and he created the occult investigator Lucius Leffing. A bridge between the Weird Tales tradition and modern horror, and a respected small-press figure.
