Joseph E. Kelleam (1913–1975) published in Astounding from the late 1930s and is best remembered for ‘Rust’ (1939), a melancholy tale of the last decaying robots outliving humanity, an early and affecting treatment of a theme the genre would return to often. He wrote novels and further stories over the following decades, but that one small elegy is his enduring mark.
