Jesse F. Bone (1916–2006) was a professor of veterinary medicine at Oregon State University who wrote science fiction on the side. His debut, ‘Triggerman’ (1958), earned a Hugo nomination, and The Lani People features an interplanetary veterinarian, his professional expertise lending his fiction an unusual authenticity. He wrote five novels and a dozen stories alongside respected veterinary textbooks.
