Frank Herbert

Frank Herbert (1920–1986) wrote Dune (1965), the sweeping ecological, political and mystical epic of the desert planet Arrakis that won the first Nebula and shared the Hugo, and became the best-selling SF novel ever published. Its five sequels deepened a saga about power, religion, ecology and the danger of charismatic leaders. A former journalist with a lifelong interest in ecology and systems thinking, Herbert brought a density of ideas that reshaped what science fiction could hold.
