Evan Hunter

Evan Hunter (1926–2005), born Salvatore Lombino, became famous for The Blackboard Jungle and, under the name Ed McBain, for the long-running 87th Precinct police procedurals that shaped the whole genre. Early in his career he wrote a good deal of science fiction for the magazines under several names, and he scripted Hitchcock’s The Birds. A consummate professional across every popular form.
