Edwin K. Sloat (1895–1986) was an Iowa newspaperman, postal worker and band leader who wrote science fiction for six busy years from 1928 for Gernsback, Harry Bates and their rivals. ‘The Space Rover’ (Astounding, 1932) and ‘Master of Storms’ are among his best-remembered tales; he later returned briefly to SF and wrote some fifty Western stories. A characteristic pragmatist of the early pulps.
