E. Everett Evans (1893–1958) was a devoted science-fiction fan for decades before publishing his first novel, Man of Many Minds, at nearly sixty. Its telepathic secret agent George Hanlon returned in Alien Minds, and Evans collaborated posthumously-published work with E. E. ‘Doc’ Smith. Married to writer Thelma Hamm, he was so loved in fandom that the field’s ‘Big Heart’ Award for service is named in his honour.
