David Lindsay (1876–1945) wrote A Voyage to Arcturus (1920), an extraordinary metaphysical journey across an alien world where landscape and even the protagonist’s body transform to embody spiritual and philosophical questions. Baffling to its first readers, it became a deep influence on C. S. Lewis and a cult classic of visionary science-fantasy.
