Ward Moore

Ward Moore (1903–1978) wrote comparatively little, but Bring the Jubilee (1953), set in a world where the South won the Battle of Gettysburg, undone by a time-travelling historian, is a landmark of alternate history, admired for its melancholy and craft. His story ‘Lot’ and its sequel, about a family’s cold self-interest amid nuclear evacuation, influenced later apocalyptic fiction and film. A small, distinguished body of work.
