Tom Purdom (1936–2024) sold his first story in 1957 and wrote five novels (beginning with I Want the Stars) before re-emerging in the 1990s as a prolific and admired writer of short fiction, ‘Fossil Games’ was a Hugo finalist. A charter member and officer of the SFWA and a longtime classical-music critic, he was a beloved fixture of the Philadelphia SF community.
