Thea von Harbou (1888–1954) wrote the novel and co-wrote (with her husband Fritz Lang) the screenplay for Metropolis (1927), whose towering future city, robot Maria and class-divided society became foundational images of science fiction. She also scripted Woman in the Moon and other key Weimar films. A central figure in the birth of SF cinema, though her later Nazi affiliation shadows her legacy.
