Sterling E. Lanier (1927–2007) wrote the popular post-apocalyptic adventure Hiero’s Journey and its sequel, and the charming ‘Brigadier Ffellowes’ tall-tales of the uncanny. As an editor at Chilton he was instrumental in getting Frank Herbert’s Dune published in book form, a lasting service to the genre. He was also a noted sculptor.
