Richard Matheson (1926–2013) reshaped modern horror and science fiction with I Am Legend (the lone survivor amid vampiric plague, a founding text of the modern zombie/apocalypse story) and The Shrinking Man. A prolific screenwriter, he wrote classic Twilight Zone episodes and much for film. His influence on Stephen King, and on horror cinema, is immense.
