Margaret St. Clair (1911–1995) published some 130 short stories from the late 1940s, blending science fiction, fantasy and a wicked wit; her more lyrical work appeared under the name ‘Idris Seabright’ in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. Novels like Sign of the Labrys and The Shadow People draw on her interest in Wicca and myth. A distinctive, sometimes eerie voice among the genre’s mid-century women.
