L. P. Gratacap (1851–1917) was an American mineralogist and museum curator whose speculative fiction, notably The Certainty of a Future Life in Mars (1903), in which the dead are reborn on Mars and communicate with Earth, blended science, spiritualism and cosmic speculation in a manner characteristic of the era’s more earnest scientific romance.
