George Tucker (1775–1861) was a Virginia congressman and professor who, under the name ‘Joseph Atterley’, wrote A Voyage to the Moon (1827), an early American interplanetary satire in which an anti-gravity metal carries the hero to a lunar civilisation used to mock earthly follies. A notable pioneer of the American speculative tradition.
