Willis George Emerson (1856–1918) wrote The Smoky God (1908), purporting to relay a Norwegian sailor’s account of a voyage into a hollow earth lit by a central sun and peopled by giants, a work that, taken as fact by some, became a touchstone of hollow-earth lore. A notable specimen of turn-of-the-century speculative fantasy.
