Raymond F. Jones (1915–1994) was a dependable Golden Age science-fiction writer, best known for This Island Earth (1952), whose 1955 film adaptation became a genre landmark. A regular in Astounding under John W. Campbell, he specialised in competent, engineering-minded stories of problem-solving and first contact, the meat-and-potatoes of the magazine era at its most readable.
