Lester del Rey (1915–1993) was a prolific writer of the Golden Age, his 'Helen O'Loy' and 'Nerves' are much-anthologised, who became, with his wife Judy-Lynn del Rey, one of the most important editors in the field. The Del Rey imprint they built at Ballantine turned fantasy into a bestselling category (publishing Terry Brooks and reissuing Tolkien to huge success). He was named a Grand Master shortly before his death.
