John Wilkins (1614–1672) was a clergyman, natural philosopher and a founder of the Royal Society whose The Discovery of a World in the Moone (1638) argued the Moon might be inhabited and speculated, remarkably early, about the possibility of flying there. A serious scientific imagination at the border of speculation and science fiction’s prehistory.
