John Jacob Astor IV (1864–1912) was a fabulously wealthy American businessman and inventor who wrote A Journey in Other Worlds (1894), an ambitious future-and-space romance imagining life in the year 2000 and voyages to Jupiter and Saturn by anti-gravity. He died in the sinking of the Titanic. A curious and lavish entry in American speculative fiction.
