John J. McGuire (1917–1981), born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is remembered chiefly for co-writing several works with H. Beam Piper, the dystopian Crisis in 2140 (‘Null-ABC’) and the comic Western-in-space A Planet for Texans (‘Lone Star Planet’) among them. He published a handful of solo stories in the late 1950s and early 60s. A capable partner to a more famous collaborator.
